Welcome to Help A Friend Club Toowoomba Inc.

Help A Friend Club Toowoomba Inc (HAFC) is a self-funded, registered charity, not-for-profit, benevolent, incorporated association.

Since 1979, HAFC has been helping those in need in the Toowoomba community.  We operate today as we have for over thirty years, offering accommodation and support to those at risk of homelessness.

Over the years many people, each with their own story, have been supported by our organisation.  Homelessness and its many causes does not discriminate and HAFC operates to assist people who have become marginalised in their own society.  Our accommodation model has allowed us to support a diverse group of people.

We offer both short and long-term accommodation.

As the need for affordable accommodation continues to grow, we are always looking for new opportunities to service our community.

Our offices are located at our main residential facility at 80 Anzac Avenue, Toowoomba.

Aims of the Association

  1. To provide affordable accommodation while maintaining a safe, stable and clean environment.
  2. To provide ethical services and standards to our clients and at all times to maintain professionalism.
  3. To be accountable and transparent to the community in all aspects of the services we offer.

Our Objectives

  1. To establish and maintain accommodation and refuge for those in crisis.
  2. To support networking to assist individuals with housing, food, clothing and education to improve each person’s life skills.
  3. To help meet the needs of men, women and children who are either permanently or temporarily homeless as a result of a crisis.
  4. To provide aid towards the relief of poverty in the community.

ASKUS seeks to support those in the community managing a disability and this support is provided by our team of professional and experienced support workers and is tailored to each individual’s needs.  We support clients who are in receipt of individual financial support packages, to maintain and to extend their existing personal community relationships as well as making them aware of additional options for social inclusion.  We also offer them the opportunity to learn and gain new skills and assist them with their daily lives.

ASKUS commenced operations on 4 March, 2012 and came about as a natural progression of the support HAFC has offered its clients over the past 26 years and the experience and insight we have gained in the areas of support and care.

ASKUS believes that it can best provide the most professional and personalised service by keeping its client database small.  This allows us the opportunity to focus on every client as an individual – an individual with their own needs and goals. It also allows us to match each of our clients with the Support Worker best suited to provide meaningful outcomes for their clients.

Our staff is guided by the 6 Standards of Disability Services which form the basis of the disability sector’s quality system.  The system aims to enhance the quality of service that people with a disability receive, and to give them a greater say in those services.

The 6 Standards of Disability Services

  • Governance and Management
  • Service Access
  • Responding to Individual Need
  • Safety, Wellbeing and Rights
  • Feedback, Complaints and Appeals
  • Human Resources
