Welcome to HAF Accommodation
HAF Accommodation is the accommodation arm of Help A Friend Club Toowoomba Inc (HAFC) a local Toowoomba charity. Our facility is located at 80 Anzac Avenue Toowoomba.
Our 22 room residential accommodation is a fully accredited level 1 facility and we provide crisis as well as short and long-term accommodation.
Our organisation was a forerunner for accreditation in Queensland.

Mission Statement
At HAF Accommodation, we believe that by providing a safe, stable and clean environment, our staff can help promote the personal growth of our residents. We recognise that during a resident’s stay with us, they regard the accommodation as their “home” and we are committed to providing them with the best possible service.
Philosophy
The provision of housing is an issue which causes much contention in today’s society. Housing is seen as a basic right for all yet its availability and quality depends largely on an individual’s ability to pay for it.
There are many people who are unable to access housing whether it be in the community, public or private sector due to the lack of options and/or a person’s lack of the necessary social skills to access this housing.
It is our belief that all people have the right to housing and need to be given the opportunity to obtain suitable housing initially, and then to remain in that accommodation. We have had residents live in our facility for up to 21 years.
HAF accommodation offers affordable lodgings to people in a communal setting.
Our goal is to provide our residents with accommodation that is clean, safe and secure. We encourage each person to manage their own lives whilst being part of a community that watches out for each other. Each resident’s participation is seen to be a crucial part of the day-to-day running of the facility. We respect each resident’s right to privacy and the right to make decisions for themselves with support being offered if needed.
Our core belief comes down to one principle that can be applied to just about everything. Each person is asked to act with respect - respect for themselves, each other and for the place where they live. We believe that by applying this one principle, a quality lifestyle can be found and maintained.
Keeping things on track
Our accommodation operates on two sets of rules:
- the rules of society known as laws, and
- our own set of ‘House Rules’.
Before anyone can move into our accommodation, the House Rules are explained by our staff. Our rules are straightforward and are what we consider fair, reasonable and necessary in order for a group of people to live together comfortably.
Rules are enforced and if occasions arise where breaches occur, management follows the procedures as set out in the Residential Tenancies and “Rooming Accommodation Act.
Location
HAF Accommodation is located conveniently in Anzac Avenue and is an easy 10 minute walk to Clifford Gardens and Newtown Shopping Centres. A bus stop is located directly in front of the building with buses running into the city, to the Base Hospital and other areas of Toowoomba.
HAF Accommodation is fully accredited as Level 1 accommodation. We provide each resident/couple with a private, lockable room with shared common areas and facilities. The building is fully security screened with the main entrance door fitted with a combination lock for added security. The building is fitted with a Fire Safety System compliant with current Australian Standards.
Each person is responsible for looking after their own rooms and their personal hygiene. Residents need to supply their own food and cook their own meals and to clean up after themselves.

Support
While our primary focus is on accommodation, we are in a position to help link people to other organisations to assist them with their every day needs as well as specialist needs – budgeting, personal hygiene and health, food assistance programmes, mental health, private accommodation and job seeking. There are many dedicated agencies in Toowoomba that can assist people looking for help.
Many of our residents are supported by other organisations which visit the premises regularly.
The benefit of operating a Level 1 facility is that it gives people the opportunity to use as well as improve on their day-to-day life skills in a home-styled environment, whilst providing assistance if needed.
