Offering accommodation and support to those in need in the Toowoomba community since 1979. We have held our NDIS Registration since the start of the NDIS in QLD.
At Help A Friend Club we believe all participants should have access to quality care. We are family driven and participant focussed and offer a wide range of services including support coordination. Our amazing staff members are here to help for 1:1 supports, group activities, personal care, household tasks, community participation and much more.
OUR HISTORY
After raising seven children on her own, it was Margaret’s vision to start an organisation that could offer respite and upport to elderly people and their families. Margaret discovered this need first-hand when she was raising her children and could not find suitable accommodation for her own aging mother (Mrs Daisy Pearl Brown). Such was Margaret’s dedication to her mother’s memory, that the club would later use her name to identify its main residence – ‘Daisy House’. Margaret’s vision started with the support of her husband Garry Bellette, her sister-in-law Joy Bellette and close friend Margaret Murray who are our founding members.

Through donations, Help a Friend Club Toowoomba INC (HAFC) and it’s members were enabled to provide food, entertainment, company and companionship for the elderly via fortnightly gatherings at the Newtown Hall in Rome Street, Toowoomba. There were so many dedicated people that gave up so much of their time to perform and fill the many roles that made these gatherings a success. Adding to the enjoyment, children from the Newtown State School provided entertainment at some of these gatherings by singing, dancing and performing plays.
From these Humble beginnings and under the leadership of Margaret’s daughter Rosemarie Weier (CEO), a dedicated management committee and, a management team consisting of Matthew Weier (Accommodation Manager), Darryl (J) Ostrofski (Office Manager), Cameron Johnston (Business Development Manager), Antony McEwan (Finance Manager), and Darryl Ostrofski (Training Manager), HAFC has grown into an organisation that now owns and operates a number of Supported Independent Living houses for people with a disabilities, a 22-room accommodation building for vulnerable people at risk of homelessness, a large office and community centre and, a complex in Boundary Street which houses our fleet of vehicles which are used by our staff to support our participants.
HAFC is fully self-funded, Toowoomba based Not for Profit Charity and, we are all extremely proud of the good work that the organisation is able to achieve. We would like to recognise and acknowledge all current and previous staff and volunteers who have assisted HAFC to become the organisation we are today and are very excited for where HAFC will be in the future.
